Beaver Hand Warmer Workshop

Make your own hand warmers with real beaver fur! Facilitated by Blossom and Bundle.

Join us for a cozy, hands-on workshop that is deeply rooted in traditional knowledge and practical skill-building techniques. This immersive experience is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the beaver, an essential animal in many ecosystems, and its significant role in Métis culture, and on the Land.

As part of the workshop, you will have the unique opportunity to create your own natural hand warmers. Utilizing soft, insulating materials sourced from a local Métis Trapper, you will learn not only the crafting techniques but also the cultural significance behind these materials. The hands-on experience will guide you through the process of selecting the right materials, understanding their properties, and employing traditional methods to construct functional and eco-friendly hand warmers.

This workshop aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature and the skills that have been passed down through generations. You will leave with not only a practical item that reflects your new skills but also a richer understanding of the land, the beaver, and the importance of preserving traditional practices in a modern context.

Each participant will go home with their own hand sewn beaver hand warmers.

All materials provided. No experience needed. Just come as you are.

This workshop is designed for adults. A future offering for children and youth is on the horizon.

About Tonya Pinkney from Blossom and Bundle

Tonya's work is based on practical experience, a deep care for place, and the belief that a meaningful connection to the land enhances individual wellbeing, strengthens community bonds, and fosters long-term environmental awareness.

Her work is influenced by her Metis heritage, emphasizing values of care, reciprocity, and responsibility to the land. She believes that learning is most impactful when it is experiential and shaped by nature.

Her approach is rooted in experience rather than perfection, driven by the belief that the land has much to teach us if we take the time to observe. Through Blossom and Bundle, she encourages others to rediscover a sense of wonder, belonging, and respect for the natural world.

Accessibility & Inclusion

We strive to make our workshops welcoming and accessible to all. This is a small-group, seated experience where participants can move at their own pace with gentle, one-on-one guidance.

Our yurt has 2 small steps up into it and our grounds have an accessible portable toilet washroom. There is a short 3-4 minute walk from the parking lot to the Gathering Yurt on a grass path, and the ground can be uneven in places. We can provide transportation on our Golf Cart to the Yurt if requested ahead of time. If accessibility is a barrier, physically or financially, please connect with us. We are happy to help where we can.

We recognize that the land we learn and play on is the traditional territory of Indigenous peoples.
