We at Rewilding Education acknowledge that we gather, learn, work and play on the traditional territories of the Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Anishinaabe Peoples, whose ancestors cared for this Land long before us. This Land, now known as Essa Township, is part of the area covered by the Williams Treaties of 1923—agreements that profoundly impacted the Chippewa Nations of Rama, Georgina Island, and Beausoleil. These nations, along with the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi, are members of the Three Fires Confederacy, an enduring alliance for countless generations that reflects deep stewardship, unity, and connection to this Land.

Today, this Land continues to be home to Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We support and amplify ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the impacts of colonization, of the treaties, and of the many injustices faced by Indigenous communities. Acknowledging the impact of historical injustices, we recognize the ongoing responsibility to unlearn, reflect, and actively engage in ways that honour Indigenous knowledge, sovereignty, and cultures.

We are committed to fostering ongoing collaboration with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples, engaging in shared teachings and educational opportunities. With humility and openness, rooted in respect and reciprocity, we are dedicated to uplifting Indigenous histories and cultures. We hold profound gratitude for the beauty, gifts, and teachings the Land offers us, and recognize our shared responsibility as stewards to engage in meaningful actions that respect, nurture, and protect the natural beauty of the Land for future generations. In the spirit of reconciliation and respect, we welcome the opportunities to connect with Indigenous community members and appreciate any guidance that is offered as we walk this path.
